Editorial Assigment – Mules Basketball Practice

During editorial class today we reviewed Lightroom in class, so we worked on basic retouching and cropping. These are some of the pictures from the February 2nd Mules’s Basketball Practice at UCM.

Editorial – Mules Practice 2-2-2010

We shot basketball practice at the Multipurpose building the other day during class, and these are some of the pictures I came up with. There were four different lenses I shot with, no flash. I think I prefer subjects that move relatively little unless I’m playing with slow shutter speed. No post-processing editing was done, this is what the camera came up with.

The Disection of a Tea Can

This was a set I originally shot for Editorial class, but didn’t quite fit the assignment. It was spawned by the quote that surrealism is “a soda can and an umbrella on a disection table” (unfortuanetly I don’t remember who said it). Regardless, I had fun with this one. Shot with two profoto lights. Some of the shots were shot with a lensbaby lens.

Lensbaby and Photoshoot

Last night, after hearing about the lensbaby lens for the first time, I decided to check it out from UCM’s handy photo checkout lab. I attempted to play with it last night, though I discovered that it was hard to get to work well in low light without a flash. (Later I discovered there is a way to change aperture, but not until right before I had to turn it back in to checkout). Then this morning, the weather felt like Spring. I took about a half hour before class to shoot pictures around campus, then during Creative Photography we ended up doing a little more shooting.

Anyhow, I thought I’d share a few of my favorites. Some have photoshop editing, but most only have the Bridge basic techniques. (Including one where I’ve come to be fond of raising saturation instead of lowering it.)
