Infinitas Publishing – Status Report

Here’s the Infinitas Publishing updates for the past month and a half(-ish)! šŸ“‹

I’ve highlighted the projects that had changes in blue.

* * *

Isaac’s Untitled Fantasy Story: On hold with a rough draft of 58,000 words.

Next up: Finish writing the rough draft for missing scenes, then do a revision pass on the earlier scenes now that I better remember how the magic system works. Once that’s done, this will likely return to being a back-burner project while I finish other projects.

Crafting Your Fictional World (Non-Fic Book): At the moment I have the introduction, two complete chapters, and one complete exercise related to those chapters ready to go, based on the feedback from Isaac. I have another one-to-two chapters partially revised. Unfortunately, I need to fully reorganize this project (which is currently split between Google Docs and Scrivener), and then create a color-coded system for what stage a chapter is in so that I will be better prepared to move forward with the next steps.

I would prefer to have six chapters and their exercises complete before starting the subscription, with the idea that I’d have a six month buffer zone for creating new chapters, as well as using the six month mark to evaluate how the plan is holding up. At a minimum, however, I’d like to have at least three chapters and their exercises complete.

Next up: Organize the chapters in Scrivener, make revisions per Isaac’s suggestions, re-review the chapters, and then upload to Ream.

Sweetweird Genre Notes: On hold with 2,100 words.

Starless Night: (Book 3 of the Distant Horizon series). Blurb needs to be updated across all retailers.

Changing Tides: (Book 4 of the Distant Horizon series). On hold while working on Legends of Cirena #9. Next step is to merge the two revised drafts and start writing the missing scenes.

Betrayed (Deceived #2): I’ve completed the basic ebook formatting, and I’ve started one final proofread/revisions of minor notes. After this is complete, I plan to send this to beta-readers for any remaining feedback, and then set a release date for the ebook.

I’ve also determined that I probably won’t be releasing book #3 on Wattpad (it largely boils down to Betrayed not being the right genre for the platform), but I haven’t yet decided whether to continue releasing it serially on another platform or to return to ebook-only releases.

Next up: Continue revisions to Deceived #3. Add Isaac’s notes from Deceived #5 (formerly #4) into the manuscript, revise Deceived #5, and revise #6 (formerly #5) before handing it to Isaac for his feedback.

TWB 4: (Book Four of The Wishing Blade series). On hold. Next step is to finish adding the remaining outline to Scrivener, review that outline for missing plot points, and then write the rough draft.

Wishing Blade Prequel (Prequel novella for The Wishing Blade): On hold. Next step is to write the rough draft of the new scenes and begin revising the original scenes to match the updated outline.

Once complete, this is intended to be a newsletter-exclusive story.

The Legends of Cirena – Collaborative Adventure Facebook Group: On hiatus.

The Dark Forest of Aneth (“Ro’nor (“The Restless Sands of Neel”) & Zynia (“The Dragons of the Mist”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel): On hold at 52,000 words. Completing the rough draft is my plan for next month.

Goals: Add the last few scenes and polish. Edit the book cover.

The Wind Mage and the Wolf (“Livena (The Wind Mage of Maijev”) & Nuaka (“The Gryphon and the Mountain Bear”) cross-over / A Legends f Cirena short novel) : Joran’s short story is on hold. Still needs a couple scenes smoothed out, and I need to cross-reference the final scene in The Wind Mage and the Wolf (from Joran’s point of view). After that, it’ll be ready for a read-aloud and proofreading.

Huntress 3: I’ve got the beginnings of a viable outline! šŸ˜„ This one has been causing me trouble for a while, and I finally figured out that I’ve been looking at the wrong fairy tales for reference. While this still has a ways to go, I’m happy to report that I’ve started drafting a potential outline and I’ve found some reading material to help me brainstorm ideas for this book.

More importantly… I can finally envision a happy ending, which is kind of important for a romance.

Next up: Reread the first two books, browse relevant reading material, and finish creating a detailed outline.

Game Design: On hold.

Mist Catcher (Isaac’s Sci-Fi Story): On hold. The current draft sits around 111,000ā€‚words, (not including the Halloween episode?).

Marketing: I tested a method of promoting BookFunnel promos by creating new banners with covers chosen from the promo, but I continued seeing a low number of clicks. I’ve held off on doing any new promos in March.

On the bright side, I’ve maintained the newsletters, though I’ve been testing adding relevant short stories/flash fiction to them to see if that increases engagement or series interest. It’s too early to analyze the results.

I also continued the usual Amazon drip ads, though I’ve begun monitoring them to see if it’s worth their ad spend. I did create one more ad, very narrowly targetted (and still a drip ad, so it’s inexpensive), and I’m monitoring it to see how it does.

I did a test run of a paid newsletter service that has previously done well for me (about a year ago), but I didn’t see any results this time, so my hypothesis that I might see sells from that has been disproved, which means I’ll hold off on running those promos for the foreseeable future. In the future I may try other paid newsletters, but I’ll need to do more research before deciding which one, if any.

Additionally, business taxes are complete and were sent in prior to March! We also updated several of the Wishing Blade universe ebook prices, and changed our mailbox for newsletter CAN-SPAM compliance purposes, since the previous box we used went up considerably in price.

Next up: Continue adding sample chapters to the BookFunnel pages and the main Infinitas Publishing website, and update my author bio across the different websites. Eventually continue updating Stripe and Payhip so I can offer direct sales from the main website. Update the business ledger on a regular basis. Add a progress tracker somewhere for the different books. Revise Amazon ads, and overhaul book categories, keywords, and blurbs.

Other Stories: I wrote a couple pieces of flash fiction for my newsletters, one from Nsasrar’s point of view (Wishing Blade Universe), one from Pops’ point of view (Distant Horizon Universe), and I’ve started a short story spin-off of The Gryphon and the Mountain Bear. Once I have enough short stories, provided that I continue writing shorts for the newsletter, I eventually hope to collect these into one volume to release as an ebook.

I’ve edited two manuscripts for the next Writers of Warrensburg anthology, and made the first chapter revisions to my manuscript per their feedback. My next step is to finish those revisions and send them in by the end of the month.

Next up: Revise ending of YA Alien Invasion/Dystopian story.

Other on hold projects include: a “for-fun” space/portal fantasy story rough draft, Mermaid/Siren Sci-Fi short story draft, and comic script (“If I Had Asked”).

SBibb’s Photographic Illustration: I’ve mostly completed ebook formatting of my current project, though there’s a few tweaks left to make pending approval. Next up will be paperback formatting.

Future Goals: Figure out a schedule for uploading general art projects. Update the SBibbPhoto website to incorporate Daz work, and fix the SEO information.

SIFlint Art: I’ve continued my dragon hoards line-art project. Goal now is to get enough sketches to create a coloring book. I’m currently at 16 of my 20 minimum (with 24 preferred). Some of those still need to be scanned and cleaned in Photoshop. If all goes well, I’d like to have this project finished by June, but I haven’t set a hard deadline yet.

Additionally, I did a booth mock-up for a potential upcoming event. More on that closer to time.

Daz PA: I’ve almost finished with a new group pose set based on a recently released Daz character. I just need to finish the dials and thumbnails, then edit the promos, and then I’ll submit it.

I temporarily tabled my Diverse Worlds Genesis 9 morphs set since I need to learn a new technique in order to finish them per the QA team. It’s next on my list, but since I wasn’t sure how long it would take, I switched to the pose set.

Infinitas Publishing – Status Report

This past month I did a lot of reading, both fiction and non-fiction. Kind of hard to say what I read, though, as I’ve been hopping a lot from book to book and back again.

Anyhow, here’s the Infinitas Publishing updates!

I’ve highlighted the projects that had changes in blue.

* * *

Crafting Your Fictional World (Non-Fic Book): I’ve now created cover art for this, though it might end up being a placeholder cover for Ream rather than the final ebook version, and I revised enough chapters to be satisfied that I would have six months of content for testing.

So I then did a read-aloud with Isaac…

Only to end up with quite a few more revisions (and chapter ideas) that I need to do before I launch this subscription. Good news is that Isaac’s academia background gave him a lot of ideas of how I could improve the chapters to hopefully be more useful.

I’m no longer looking at the rough draft word count since it’s split into two documents, one on Google Docs which has the general concept chapters, and one in Scrivener which has the more polished chapters (that still need revisions). The Scrivener count currently shows 13,200 words.

Next up: Make revisions per Isaac’s suggestions, re-review the chapters, then upload to Ream.

Sweetweird Genre Notes: On hold with 2,100 words.

Distant Horizon: (Book 1 of the Distant Horizon series): The ebook version of this went to space šŸš€ on the Peregrine lunar lander in early January!

While complications with the lander’s fuel intake valve resulted in the mission not going to the moon as planned (the lander instead re-entered Earth’s atmosphere and burned up in re-entry), Distant Horizon and Fractured Skies were both part of the Writer’s on the Moon project that spent a few days in space.

Next up: Paperback version of this in Atticus, which can be used on Draft2Digital in order to release a paperback version wide across multiple retailers, rather than only on Amazon. I intend to revisit the blurb before finalizing this. On hold.

The Glitch Saga (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Goal is to create a new cover and print edition for the complete collection edition. (On hold).

Deceived (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Needs print formatting. On hold.

SBibb - Betrayed Cover

Betrayed (Deceived #2): The last five chapters have been posted to Wattpad, completing the Wattpad postings!

My next step is to do the ebook formatting of this so I can send it to beta-readers for any final feedback, and then set a release date for the ebook.

I’ve also got to decide whether to release book three on Wattpad, or if I want to move it to a different platform, or if I want to continue releasing it serially versus ebook first.

The Dark Forest of Aneth (“Ro’nor (“The Restless Sands of Neel”) & Zynia (“The Dragons of the Mist”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel): Major progress made here, since this was my primary focus for January. Didn’t quite finish the rough draft, but I did do another round of revisions to what was there, cut a few scenes, added a few scenes, and finally figured out how to complete the plot arc in a way that felt more satisfying.

The draft now sits at 52,000 words (down 4,000 words after cutting several scenes that weren’t working).

The Legends of Cirena Volume One (LoC #1-6 Collection): Technically complete, though there are still a few small tweaks I’d like to make (prettier ellipses). I also plan to update the ebook files of LoC 1-6 for the minor typos as time permits.

Huntress 3: On hold.

Next up: Reread the first two books and create an outline.

Huntress Prequel: On hold at 18,000 words. Needs rough draft completed.

Game Design: On hold.

Mist Catcher (Isaac’s Sci-Fi Story): Isaac reports having added only a little extra to Mist Catcher (plus some plot notes), so I don’t have an updated word count. For now I’m assuming the current draft sits around 111,000ā€‚words, (not including the Halloween episode?).

Marketing:

Still had pretty low click counts on the BookFunnel book promos last month, though I started testing a new method of promoting the promo (by creating new banners in Canva with a handful of covers chosen from the promo that I think might appeal to my newsletter and blog readers). I’m going to continue testing that method this month. I do have a few new promos I’ve joined for February, though I still need to set up the blog’s weekly book promo highlights.

Newsletters have largely continued as planned (aside from one accidentally skipped one) in the same format as before, and I also continued the usual Amazon drip ads, though I intend to evaluate them soon to decide whether or not to continue them.

Accounting for last year is now complete, however, and I’m all set to work on business taxes (which I hope to complete by mid-month).

Other Stories: No new updates on my end, though I’ve received the manuscripts I’m going to edit for the next Writers of Warrensburg anthology, as well as the first edited version of my manuscript, which I’ll be focusing on in February.

Next up: Revise ending of YA Alien Invasion/Dystopian story.

Other on hold projects include: a “for-fun” space/portal fantasy story rough draft, Mermaid/Siren Sci-Fi short story draft, and comic script (“If I Had Asked”).

Unofficial Minecraft FanFic: On hold.

SBibb’s Photographic Illustration: On hold. I do have a new formatting project I intend to work on during February.

Future Goals: Figure out a schedule for uploading general art projects. Update the SBibbPhoto website to incorporate Daz work, and fix the SEO information.

SIFlint Art: No new updates here, aside from some general for-fun artsy practice and drawings.

Daz PA: No updates here, though I plan to update my Diverse Worlds Genesis 9 morphs set per quality control feedback during February. Did a little beta-testing for an undisclosed side project, but I’m currently leaning away from getting more involved with that project.

Infinitas Publishing – Status Report

šŸŽ‰ New year, new status report!

I’ve highlighted the projects that had changes in blue.

* * *

Crafting Your Fictional World (Non-Fic Book): A small update to this: I drafted another worksheet for one of the chapters. I also did a little more work on Ream to start setting up the subscription option. Rough draft sitting at 22,000 words.

Next up: Create cover art for the book/Ream (which means doing a bit of non-fic cover research) and then revising enough chapters to have at least half a year’s worth of content for scheduling.

Sweetweird Genre Notes: On hold with 2,100 words.

Distant Horizon: (Book 1 of the Distant Horizon series): Next up: Paperback version of this in Atticus, which can be used on Draft2Digital in order to release a paperback version wide across multiple retailers, rather than only on Amazon. I intend to revisit the blurb before finalizing this. On hold.

The Glitch Saga (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Goal is to create a new cover and print edition for the complete collection edition. (On hold).

Deceived (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Needs print formatting. On hold.

SBibb - Betrayed Cover

Betrayed (Deceived #2): So far, fourteen chapters have been posted to Wattpad (up from nine chapters last time). I still need to schedule the final chapter, which is set up aside from the note detailing what’s coming next for the series. The reason is that I want to note what’s coming next… whether I’ll be releasing book three via Wattpad as well and, if so, how long of a wait to expect.

Next up: Send this draft to beta-readers so I can start preparing for the ebook release. Continue revisions to Deceived #3.

The Dark Forest of Aneth (“Ro’nor (“The Restless Sands of Neel”) & Zynia (“The Dragons of the Mist”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel): On hold with a draft (both polished and rough sections) at 56,000 words.

Goals: Finish rough draft and polish.

The Legends of Cirena Volume One (LoC #1-6 Collection): Upon reading the print edition, I discovered that I’d somehow managed to remove ellipses from two chapters of The Cursed Halls of Kalecen. I prioritized getting those added back into the print edition (and fixing a few other typos).

The updated file is now uploaded to KDP. There are still a few small tweaks I’d like to make (I learned how to make the ellipses look better in Atticus while getting them added back in) but that will be a side project for later. I also plan to update the ebook files of LoC 1-6 for the minor typos found, so that’s also on my radar as time permits.

Huntress 3: On hold.

Next up: Reread the first two books and create an outline.

Huntress Prequel: On hold at 18,000 words. Needs rough draft completed.

Game Design: On hold.

Mist Catcher (Isaac’s Sci-Fi Story): Isaac added an extra 1,300 words, leaving the current draft at 110,700ā€‚words, (not including the Halloween episode?).

Marketing:

I did join a few BookFunnel promos last month, and I included the blog’s book promo highlights. That said, I’ve noticed a low number of clicks on my end (especially since I stopped posting on Twitter/X because I was concerned I was only getting bot clicks), so I’m worried that I’m not providing as much value to the promo on my end. I do have one promo scheduled for January, but I need to re-evaluate these to see if there’s a better way for me to use them.

I did resume newsletters as planned, and I’ve been evaluating if there are any changes I’d like to make to the format of those. Amazon drip ads continued as well.

Other Stories: Despite very last minute procrastination, I managed to write a rough draft for my Writers of Warrensburg anthology, revise it, run it through ProWritingAid for edits, and then read it aloud with Isaac for a final polish before submitting it on the final day before the deadline.

Yay for outlines!

Next for that project is waiting to receive the manuscript swap for editing other submissions.

Future Goals: Figure out a schedule for uploading general art projects. Update the SBibbPhoto website to incorporate Daz work, and fix the SEO information.

SIFlint Art: Pencil bags have arrived! Aside from being a little darker than expected, they came out nicely, I think. We’ve been selling them at our local comic/book shop, Black Ice.

The pencil bags arrived!

Additionally, I managed to get one submission made for the Poorly Drawn Pets fundraiser for the Copper Country Humane Society.

Daz PA: I finalized my Diverse Worlds Genesis 9 morphs set and submitted it, but I did receive some feedback notes for changes that need to be made, so that’s my next step.

* * *

Happy writing and reading (Or 3D rendering if you’re into Daz)! šŸ™‚

Infinitas Publishing – Status Report

ā° Time for another Infinitas Publishing status report! šŸ˜Š

I’ve highlighted the projects that had changes in blue.

* * *

Isaac’s Untitled Fantasy Story: So… this was a backburner project as of a month ago, but I needed something that was already outlined for NaNo, so I snagged it to work on last month. (More about that change of plans here). I ended up writing 58,000 words for NaNoWriMo, and managed to keep up with par daily. Now I’m taking a break from writing for a few days, because that was exhausting while also trying to keep up with my evening shift at the library and preparing for the Poor Artist Sale. But… now there’s a good chunk of rough draft ready to go!

Next goal with this will likely be to finish writing the rough draft for any missing scenes, then do a revision pass on the earlier scenes now that I better remember how the magic system works. Once that’s done, this will likely return to being a back-burner project while I finish other projects.

Crafting Your Fictional World (Non-Fic Book): Rough draft sitting at 22,000 words. On hold.

On hold.

The Glitch Saga (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Goal is to create a new cover and print edition for the complete collection edition. (On hold).

Deceived (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Needs print formatting. On hold.

SBibb - Betrayed Cover

Betrayed (Deceived #2): We’re now up to chapter nine on Wattpad! All episodes have been scheduled both for the newsletter and on Wattpad, with the exception of the final chapter. The reason is that I’d like to have a note with what’s coming next, and when, and that is still to be determined.

As it currently stands, this draft of Betrayed is set to be fully released on Wattpad in early February.

My next step is to send this draft to beta-readers so I can start preparing for the ebook release.

Future Goals: Continue revisions to Deceived #3.

The Dark Forest of Aneth (“Ro’nor (“The Restless Sands of Neel”) & Zynia (“The Dragons of the Mist”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel): On hold for NaNoWriMo, with a draft (both polished and rough sections) at 56,000 words.

Goals: Finish rough draft and polish.

The Legends of Cirena Volume One (LoC #1-6 Collection): Print edition complete! I got the last chapter background illustrated, added in illustrations (both new and ones created for the Wishing Blade Universe newsletter), and finalized the formatting and cover.

There are a few minor tweaks I may make to the print edition before moving on from this completely, but I won’t make those changes until I have a chance to reread through the print edition (one last round of searching for typos, plus a reminder for any edits I need to make to LoC #9).

Huntress 3: On hold. Still planning on rereading the first two books and creating an outline. This might be a December project, though I primarily plan to use December for wrapping up small this-and-that projects.

Huntress Prequel: On hold at 18,000 words. Needs rough draft completed.

Game Design: On hold.

Mist Catcher (Isaac’s Sci-Fi Story): Last time this was at 46,600 words (including some notes). However, this was Isaac’s NaNoWriMo project, and he wrapped up the month with a whopping new 62, 845 words. šŸŽ‰

From what I can tell, that puts his latest draft at 109,400 words (not including the Halloween episode?)

Aside from taking a break after NaNo, I think his goal is to complete the series arc, which would complete the draft.

Marketing:

The Poor Artist Sale went well. Though we didn’t quite hit my target goal in sales, we got really close, and we did better than last year. šŸ˜ And, aside from a rough start with setup (let’s just say that setting up the canopy with lights took longer than expected(, we were both happy with the final result.

We shared the booth with Lillie Rae Art, who had stickers and jewelry on their side (my favorite being the cat themed-bubble tea pin, and Isaac’s favorite being the little rainbow ghost pin).

Again, no new BookFunnel promos last month, though December is fully set up to have weekly book promo highlights. šŸ™‚ I also plan to resume newsletters in December. Amazon drip ads continued as usual.

Next up: Continue adding sample chapters to the BookFunnel pages and the main Infinitas Publishing website, and update my author bio across the different websites. I finally remembered that my plan for Stripe and Payhip was to offer direct sales from the main website. Update the business ledger on a regular basis. Add a progress tracker somewhere for the different books. Revise Amazon ads, and overhaul book categories, keywords, and blurbs.

Other Stories: On hold

Next up: Draft my next Writers of Warrensburg anthology short story. Revise ending of YA Alien Invasion/Dystopian story.

Future Goals: Figure out a schedule for uploading general art projects. Update the SBibbPhoto website to incorporate Daz work, and fix the SEO information.

SIFlint Art: Pencil bags have been ordered (we did three designs… the Legends of Cirena era map, my nonbinary book dragon, and Isaac’s Celestial Tides dolphins in space), but they didn’t come in on time for the Poor Artists Sale.

We had also tossed around the idea of doing a coloring book with my Dragon Hoard designs, but didn’t have enough designs yet for that, so we instead printed coloring postcards through the local The Print Shop store. We printed nine designs, and created bundles of eighteen postcards (two of each design) with an eight-pack of crayons. (I ordered 43 packs of crayons from Michaels, whee!). We did sell those at the Poor Artist Sale.

Daz PA: I’ve finished the main shapes for the Genesis 9 version of my Diverse Worlds Head morphs set for 200 Plus Head and Face Morphs. All that’s left is to finalize the set, which I plan to prioritize now that NaNoWriMo is over.

* * *

Happy writing and reading (Or 3D rendering if you’re into Daz)! šŸ™‚

Infinitas Publishing – Status Report

šŸ“‹ New month, new Infinitas Publishing status report! (On time this time!)

I’ve highlighted the projects that had changes in blue.

* * *

Crafting Your Fictional World (Non-Fic Book): Rough draft sitting at 22,000 words. On hold.

On hold.

The Glitch Saga (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Goal is to create a new cover and print edition for the complete collection edition. (On hold).

Deceived (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Needs print formatting. On hold.

SBibb - Betrayed Cover

Betrayed (Deceived #2): Isaac and I have finished the read-aloud of Betrayed and we’ve started releasing new chapters on Wattpad again! One new chapter so far, but the rest are ready to go.

Future Goals: Continue revisions to Deceived #3.

My next step is to write the rough draft of the new scenes and begin revising the original scenes to match the updated outline.

Once complete, this is intended to be a newsletter-exclusive story.

The Legends of Cirena – Collaborative Adventure Facebook Group: On hiatus.

The Dark Forest of Aneth (“Ro’nor (“The Restless Sands of Neel”) & Zynia (“The Dragons of the Mist”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel): I’ve been revising the scenes that are already present, reorganized the scenes for better flow, and added in additional missing scenes.

I had hoped to have this ready to pause before NaNoWriMo, but there are still a few scenes to read through. My plan is to finish the current read-through, make notes of any scenes that still need written, and then put it on hold until after NaNoWriMo is complete.

Last time I posted this was 51,000 words, and it’s now sitting at 55800 words.

Goals: Finish rough draft.

The Legends of Cirena Volume One (LoC #1-6 Collection): I’ve been formatting stories one through six of the Legends of Cirena series in Atticus so that I can create an omnibus print edition. Five of the six episodes have their chapter backgrounds completed, and I’ve updated the Cirena map to represent the Legends timeframe.

Next up is finalizing the cover, finishing the last chapter background, and compiling the six episodes into one volume.

Huntress 3: Well… I was planning on working on this for NaNoWriMo, but I haven’t had a chance to reread the first two books so that I could make my outline. It looks like I’ll be working on the “Untitled Fantasy Story” from the Backburner Projects page since it already has a full outline to work from.

I’m not sure yet if I’ll try to switch projects midway through or not.

Huntress Prequel: On hold at 18,000 words. Needs rough draft completed.

Game Design: On hold.

Mistcatcher (Isaac’s Sci-Fi Story): Last time this was at 45,600 words and it’s now at 46,600 words (including some notes). Isaac has started working on editing the first episodes, and is working on continuing drafting this project for NaNoWriMo. In the meantime, has written a special Halloween episode (word count not included in the total).

Marketing:

We got our new business cards and catalogues from CatPrint, so we’ll have those at the Poor Artists Sale. šŸ™‚

No new BookFunnel promos, though I finally uploaded the subscribers from previous events to their respective newsletters. I haven’t yet resumed the newsletters, though I hope to do so next month. Amazon drip ads ran as usual.

Next up: Continue adding sample chapters to the BookFunnel pages and the main Infinitas Publishing website, and update my author bio across the different websites. Remember what my plan was for Stripe and Payhip direct sales.

Future Goals: Figure out a schedule for uploading general art projects. Update the SBibbPhoto website to incorporate Daz work, and fix the SEO information.

SIFlint Art: On hold for other projects, though we plan to order a few pencil bags with our designs for the upcoming Poor Artists Sale.

Daz PA: I’m about finished with the Genesis 9 version of my Diverse Worlds Head morphs sets for 200 Plus Head and Face Morphs. Did a few tweaks to make the product and promos look better, and I think I’m ready to move on to finalizing the set. šŸ˜

Infinitas Publishing – Status Report

šŸ“‹Time for a three month’s catch-up Infinitas Publishing status report!šŸ“‹

Time flies, and the last few months have been busy. Partially with GeekUP prep, then the actual convention, and then recovery and wrap-up. Partially with getting a promotion from my new job as a part-time substitute library assistant position to the regular part-time library assistant position (regular hours and slightly better pay, woot!). And partly with Isaac graduating with his Ph.D. (extra woot!).

There was a lot of stuff happening, including on the publishing side, so hopefully this report will help clarify a bit on that front. šŸ˜‰

I’ve highlighted the projects that had changes in blue.

* * *

Flash Fiction: I wrote a Halloween-themed flash fiction piece, that I posted on the blog earlier. “The Bird on the Candy Dish.” Enjoy! šŸŽƒ

Crafting Your Fictional World (Non-Fic Book): I taught another world-building workshop at the CCCAC  in August. Same class, but updated based on feedback from the previous class. I have plans to teach another class in October. ā˜ŗļø

I still have hopes of completing a book on the same topic, though I haven’t added much to it since the last update, so it’s still sitting at 22,000 words. (All my attention was on GeekUP and getting Starless Night into print). As other projects wrap up, I suspect I’ll have more time to work on this again.

Additionally, I’d still like to offer this as monthly subscription that has early access to chapters and a monthly Q&A. But I won’t want to start that until I have a completed draft to work from.

Sweetweird Genre Notes: A while back I took some notes regarding the Sweetweird Genre based on shows I’d been watching, and recently I started the process of inputting my handwritten notes into a Google Docs file. Eventually I’d like to compile all the notes and do something with them. Not sure what yet… it’ll depend on how long the notes end up being (the current version is 2,100 words long).

On hold.

Starless Night: (Book 3 of the Distant Horizon series). The blurb has been updated! I’m much happier with it now. I also polished the print formatting, created the wrap-around cover, and uploaded it to Amazon. You can now order the paperback! šŸ˜ƒ

Here’s the new Starless Night blurb:

A battle of wills. A sinister deal. And the rise of a formidable enemyā€¦

When the Camaraderieā€™s superweapon retaliated against its creators, it transformed into Legion, a collective of malevolent spirits that brutally massacred every factionā€™s army and forced the worldā€™s superpowers into hiding. Jenna Nickleson, a rebel with the equivalent of a psychic parasite buried in her head, canā€™t shake that she may have inadvertently brought this monster to power. But she is determined to keep the peace within the newly-formed Alliance for the sake of protecting the remaining world.

Her brain seed has other ideas. It spreads through her mind like an invasive weed, intent on claiming Legionā€™s power for itself by twisting her personality to match its tyrannical predecessor. Her last hope of saving herself, the Alliance, and her remaining friends, is to trust the only telepath whoā€™s proven capable of subduing the seedā€”an elderly Camaraderie butler with questionable morals.

The seed warns her that this butlerā€™s intentions are more sinister than he lets onā€¦ and Jenna agrees. Sheā€™s simply out of options. With Legion dangerously interested in the seedā€™s knowledge, and the return of an enemy bent on collecting Jenna’s spirit for his own cruel purposes, time is running out. She needs the forbidden ally.

But how can she trust the telepathā€™s schemes when she canā€™t even trust herself?

Order from: Amazon (US)Ā |Ā Amazon (UK)

Up next: Updating the blurb on all the ebook retailers.

Changing Tides: (Book 4 of the Distant Horizon series). On hold while working on Legends of Cirena #9. Next step is to merge the two revised drafts and start writing the missing scenes.

The Glitch Saga (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Goal is to create a new cover and print edition for the complete collection edition. (On hold).

Deceived (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Needs print formatting. On hold.

SBibb - Betrayed Cover

Betrayed (Deceived #2): Isaac and I finally started the read-aloud of this again now that Isaac has graduated and GeekUP has passed. We’ve reviewed the first four chapters that are already available on Wattpad, and edited two more. I’m planning to wait until we have at least five chapters ready to go before I start releasing them again.

Future Goals: Continue revisions to Deceived #3.

My next step is to write the rough draft of the new scenes and begin revising the original scenes to match the updated outline.

Once complete, this is intended to be a newsletter-exclusive story.

The Legends of Cirena – Collaborative Adventure Facebook Group: On hiatus.

The Dark Forest of Aneth (“Ro’nor (“The Restless Sands of Neel”) & Zynia (“The Dragons of the Mist”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel): I’ve continued making quite a bit of progress here. I’ve finally figured out an ending, solved several plot problems, added in a new POV (that may or may not make it to the final draft, but was helpful in figuring out what was happening in the background), and ironed out some details regarding an in-universe oracle/Tarot deck which is plot-relevant. I’m still writing a few missing scenes, but I’ve also identified a few other plot problems that need to be rewritten.

Last time I posted this was 36,000 words long, and now it’s 51,000 words.

I’ve also rendered an image for the cover, which I need to examine to see if I need to tweak or if it’s ready to take into Photoshop.

Goals: Finish rough draft.

The Legends of Cirena Volume One (LoC #1-6 Collection): I’ve been formatting stories one through six of the Legends of Cirena series in Atticus so that I can create an omnibus print edition. I originally hoped to have this done for GeekUP but ran out of time to complete it. Currently, all the stories have basic formatting, and four of the six have their chapter backgrounds completed. Two are still in progress (one which requires me to level up my marker skills). I’ve also partially completed a book cover for this, but I still need to update the map to match the Legends era. I kind of want to add some other artwork to this book (all grayscale), but that will depend on time and how much space I have in the book. New goal is to have this ready in time for the Poor Artists Sale in early December.

Huntress 3: On hold, but I now have plans to work on this for NaNoWriMo. Plan is to scrap the previous drafts, reread the first two books, and then go from there.

Huntress Prequel: On hold at 18,000 words. Needs rough draft completed.

Game Design: On hold.

Mistcatcher (Isaac’s Sci-Fi Story): Last time this was at 41,700 words and it’s now at 45,600 words (including some notes). Now that he’s finished his dissertation, he’s begun thinking more about writing this, and I think he has plans to work on it for NaNoWriMo. He’s also started inputting some of the story into Scrivener, so I’m not 100% sure on the current word count.

Marketing:

Our big event for the past few months was preparing for GeekUP. It’s a local comic convention we really enjoy. Last year we did an interactive booth event based on our Distant Horizon series (Have you been tested for super powers yet?), and we wanted to do something similar this year. I got the idea a few months ago to do an event based on our Wishing Blade universe, and so we created a fancy box with LED blacklights hidden in the top, and painted a bunch of cream colored ribbons (because white, apparently, fluoresces) with clear, UV reactive paints that would fluoresce different colors. Then we allowed booth visitors to select a ribbon and see what color they got, and thereby what kind of magic they would have in the world of the Wishing Blade. We also gave them a bookmark with a related character on it, and told them about our books.

We got the bookmarks printed from a local printer called The Print Shop, along with business cards. Originally I was going to get business cards and catalogues from a place called CatPrint, but due to a bit of a dimensions setup snafu, that got delayed, so we’ve ordered them from CatPrint for our next event instead. (We’re hoping that will be the Copper Country Community Arts Center Poor Artists Sale). On the bright side, that meant we got to correct a couple typos we hadn’t caught on our first pass.

Anyway, the interactive part went really well (aside from us testing the box in darkness and then realizing our booth faced a full wall of morning sunlit windows). We also had Starless Night available in print for the first time, and we offered discounts for buying multiple books in a series. Since we had more books and a few new items for the table, we did a test setup at the house. Lastly, we created ourselves a large banner which we printed out at home and Isaac mounted, and we offered free coloring pages based on some of our dragon stickers. The event ended up going really, really well for us. We had a lot of fun, and I think it might have been our best in terms of sales, too (though we didn’t quite break even with our setup costs, we’re hoping those will be covered in future events).

I’ve held off on BookFunnel promos for the past couple months (and need to input signups into my newsletter), and my newsletters have been a bit sporadic. I’m hoping to bring them back to a more consistent release schedule shortly, now that I’m about finished wrapping up stuff from GeekUP and preparing for the next live event. Per usual, I let the low cost Amazon drip ads run.

I’ve also now gone through Jessie Cunniffe’s Book Blurb Magic course and used it to rewrite the Starless Night blurb (with help of feedback from the Writers of Warrensburg group), which I’m much happier with now. I plan to try rewriting more of the blurbs as I get time, and I may try enlisting Isaac’s help with this as well.

I’ve managed to stay semi-caught up with the business ledger for the current year, so while there are a few more things to input, it’s looking a lot better than it has in previous years.

Also… I finally created the Back-Burner Projects page! Head over there if you want to see what we’ve got planned in the future at some undetermined time.

Next up: Continue adding sample chapters to the BookFunnel pages and the main Infinitas Publishing website, and update my author bio across the different websites. Remember what my plan was for Stripe and Payhip direct sales. Update the business ledger on a regular basis. Add a progress tracker somewhere for the different books. Revise Amazon ads, and overhaul book categories, keywords, and blurbs.

Other Stories: I updated 1,700 words of the YA SciFi Alien Invasion/Dystopian Conspiracy short story. Plus, thanks to a random encounter while shelf-reading at the library, I think I solved a plot problem that had been stumping me in regards to completing this.

I wrote a short outline/notes for a vampire short story. Not sure if I’ll go back and write the rest of this or not.

I’ve fully outlined a contemporary fantasy short story for the next Writers of Warrensburg anthology. Next step is to draft it.

On hold projects include: a “for-fun” space/portal fantasy story rough draft, Mermaid/Siren Sci-Fi short story draft, and comic script (“If I Had Asked”).

Unofficial Minecraft FanFic: On hold.

SBibb’s Photographic Illustration: On hold.

Future Goals: Figure out a schedule for uploading general art projects. Update the SBibbPhoto website to incorporate Daz work, and fix the SEO information.

SIFlint Art: Isaac and I decided to go ahead and order sticker for the various live events. We’ve picked up a few deals from Zap! Creatives, each for five designs. A few we had previously had on RedBubble (though we aren’t actively promoting that right now due to their less-friendly artist terms), and the others are new. While we only had five designs at GeekUP, we currently have fifteen designs now printed. There are five Pride planets (Ace, Bi, Trans, Inclusive Progress Rainbow, Gay), the PolyAm Starry Backgrond with heart and infinity symbol, our Infinitas Publishing logo, an “I Need These” themed non-binary dragon sitting on a pile of books, a pansexual dragon sitting on a pile of sticky notes, a lesbian pumpkin witch dragon, a genderfluid wire/cable-hoarding dragon, a rainbow dice hoarding dragon, and three of Isaac’s space whales stickers. I’m hoping to continue making more designs for the Pride planets and the “I Need These” dragon hoards in the future, but we’ll see how well they sell as to how many more I make into stickers. Another idea we have is to make a coloring book of our dragon designs.

Daz PA: I did a bit of an experiment in learning how to rig tighter fitting clothing and I have started modeling a staff for the repurposed pose set, but I still need to texture it. Once I’ve finished other projects I plan to revisit the on-hold Daz projects.

The main one I’m working on right now is a Genesis 9 version of my Diverse Worlds Head morphs sets for 200 Plus Head and Face Morphs product. I’m about finished creating the head shapes and their main promos, and then I’ll work on prepping the rest of the product for submission.

Infinitas Publishing – Status Report

šŸ“š Time for another Infinitas Publishing status report!

Woooboy. The last three months were super busy.

Between having family visiting (which went super well), preparing and starting the moving process (across town, but we were trying to consolidate stuff, and it took much longer than hoped), finishingĀ that same move (painful, but now we’re in a place with giant windows!), vacation and visiting family in Missouri, which resulted bringing back Isaac’s adorable old-man cat (we think he’s 18 years old?) to live with us in Michigan, and me getting a new part-time job (substitute librarian assistant, woot!), there’s been a lot going on.

But we’ve still had some publishing-related progress happening in the background, albeit at a slower rate. šŸ™‚

I’ve highlighted the projects that had changes in blue.

* * *

Crafting Your Fictional World (Non-Fic Book): After doing the world-building workshop in April for the CCCAC, which I reallyĀ enjoyed doing and had a lot more ideas for, I talked with a few of our author friends and decided to move forward with writing a book based around world-building. I’m using the presentation as the starting outline, but have already added several sections to it in the drafting phase. I’ve also started editing chunks of it as I go.

Currently, I have about 22,000 words to the manuscript.

I’m hoping to eventually start a paid monthly subscription project for this where subscribers can read chapters early, offer feedback about what they’d like more detail about, and have a monthly Q&A. More on this in the future, once I’ve worked out the details. (But if it’s something you’d be interested in, please let me know!)

On hold.

Starless Night: (Book 3 of the Distant Horizon series). Next up is polishing the print formatting. I also need to update the blurb and create the wrap-around cover once I have the final page count. On hold.

(On hold).

DeceivedĀ (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Needs print formatting. On hold.

SBibb - Betrayed CoverBetrayed (Deceived #2): The first four chapters have been posted on Wattpad. Chapter five was delayed due to not having enough time for both me and Isaac to do the read-aloud at the same time. I had hoped to be back on track before the vacation started, but the move took a lot longer than I’d expected, and was immediately followed by the vacation, and then adjusting to my new work schedule.

I do have a date scheduled on the back end for starting this back up in July, but I’m going to wait to announce that date until I have several episodes ready to release, that way the chances of having another release gap is much lower.

The next step is toĀ continue revisions on Deceived #3.

Future Goals: Continue revisions to Deceived #3. Add Isaac’s notes from Deceived #5 (formerly #4) into the manuscript, revise Deceived #5, and revise #6 (formerly #5) before handing it to Isaac for his feedback.

Lily’s Story: (Distant Horizon series spin-off/prequel novel) On hold. (Has outline).

Sky Runner:Ā (Multiverse novel). On hold. (Has outline)

The Multiverse Chronicles: On hold. (Needs edits).

Little One: On hold. (Needs revisions).

TWB 4: (Book Four of The Wishing Blade series). On hold.Ā Next step is to finish adding the remaining outline to Scrivener, review that outline for missing plot points, and then write the rough draft.

Runes and Ravens (Stone and String 3): Needs outlining and revision. On hold.

The Secret in the Shadows: (Prequel novella for The Wishing Blade) On hold. Needs the rest of Isaac’s notes input into the manuscript.

Wishing Blade Prequel (Prequel novella for The Wishing Blade): On hold. My next step is to write the rough draft of the new scenes and begin revising the original scenes to match the updated outline.

Once complete, this is intended to be a newsletter-exclusive story.

The Legends of Cirena – Collaborative Adventure Facebook Group: On hiatus.

The Dark Forest of Aneth (“Ro’nor (“The Restless Sands of Neel”) & Zynia (“The Dragons of the Mist”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel): A lot of progress got made here. I’ve shuffled several scenes around for better pacing and added missing scenes. There are still a few scenes I want to add, primarily at the end, but I’m almost done with revising what’s already written, and I’m much happier with the tone and plot.

I’ve also solidified some Cirenan lore that I’d been having a hard time deciding on, so that should help with the writing of The Wishing Blade #4.

At the moment it’s 36000 words long, and I’ve been tinkering with including story-based song lyrics, and maybe a third point of view I hadn’t originally planned.

I’ve also made some progress on setting up the book cover render.

Goals: Finish rough draft. Complete the book cover render.

The Wind Mage and the Wolf (“Livena (The Wind Mage of Maijev”) & Nuaka (“The Gryphon and the Mountain Bear”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel) : Joran’s short story is on hold. Still needs a couple scenes smoothed out, and I need to cross-reference the final scene in The Wind Mage and the Wolf (from Joran’s point of view). After that, it’ll be ready for a read-aloud and proofreading.

Legends of Cirena Epic: Outlining on hold. Not sure yet if it will be a series of shorts and novellas, or a novel. Map of Litkanston on hold. This is intended to be a back-burner project.

“MOG”:Ā On hold. (Needs revisions)

Huntress 3: On hold while working on Changing Tides draft.

Huntress Prequel: On hold at 18,000 words. Needs rough draft completed.

Game Design: Mostly on hold, but Isaac and I started looking more into options that might let us feasibly produce Phalanx, at least for in-person sales events.

Future plans in game design involve: possibly preparing a print-and-play version of Battle Decks, polishing the elemental game card art and testing mechanics.

Space Adventure Comic: On hold.

Villain Problems: (WIP panels viewable on my Instagram). On hold.

Emberverse (Working Title):Ā  Revisions on hold. Needs title. Needs outline for “Season 2.”

Isaac’s Short Stories: – School’s back in session, so these projects are on hold while he writes his dissertation.

Isaac’s Untitled Sci-Fi Story: Isaac has added about 9,700 words to this story, bringing it to 41,700 words (including some notes). He’s continued plotting for the story, though he hasn’t had much time to work on the actual draft due to the move and finishing his dissertation.

Marketing: I put most of the marketing on hold during the past few months, aside from Amazon drip ads. No BookFunnel promos or newsletters, though I have one partially drafted to resume in July, and BookFunnel promos scheduled for July as well. I’m also considering running the Wishing Blade Newsletter twice a month instead of once a month, since I seem to do better staying on track with sending them if it runs more frequently.

I did finally purchase Jessie Cunniffe’s Book Blurb Magic course, which I’ve been wanting to do for a while, and I’ve started going through it with the intent to update the Distant Horizon series blurbs (and then to revisit my other book blurbs afterward).

I’ve sent in a couple more workshop proposals to the Copper Country Community Arts Center, which are set to run in August.

I’ve also created a Stripe and Payhip account for direct sales, though this is for a backburner project.

Additionally, I finally caught up on the business ledger for the current year. (Woot!)

Next up: Continue adding sample chapters to the BookFunnel pages and the main Infinitas Publishing website, and update my author bio across the different websites.

Other future marketing goals: Update the business ledger on a regular basis. Add a progress tracker somewhere for the different books. Revise Amazon ads, and overhaul book categories, keywords, and blurbs. Create a “Backburner Project Page” for projects that aren’t going to be focused on for a while.

LitRPG / GameLit Story:Ā On hold. (Needs revisions and restructuring).

Other Stories: On hold. Includes a “for-fun” space/portal fantasy story rough draft, YA SciFi Alien Invasion/Dystopian Conspiracy short story revisions, and Mermaid/Siren Sci-Fi short story draft. Comic script (“If I Had Asked”) on hold.

Untitled Fantasy Story: On hold. Next step is to review and adjust the first book’s outline, and then adjust book two’s outline.

Unofficial Minecraft FanFic: I’ve added 19,600 words to this draft (including notes), bringing the current word count to 34600. I think I’ve found a good stopping point for the book, so I’ve been going back and writing the sections where I only left myself notes at the time. If I decide to publish it, it will need heavy edits to smooth everything out and make a cohesive (and entertaining) story. For April, I aimed to write at least one sentence per day on the project. That plan fell apart afterward due to moving and vacation, but I got one month of steady progress in!

SBibb’s Photographic Illustration: I’ve wrapped up an updated wrap-around cover for Rayme Michael’s Screw the Devil’s Daiquiri. This was a cover I originally created for Melange Books, but the update came after a rights reversion.

Future Goals: Figure out a schedule for uploading general art projects. Update the SBibbPhoto website to incorporate Daz work, and fix the SEO information.

SIFlintArt: Isaac and I are tossing around the idea of making stickers to sell at local conventions. At the moment we have a few designs we’re considering, including a set of Pride-themed planets. So far we have a draft for bi, ace, and trans planet designs. More on this in the future if we decide to go ahead and order stickers. (Maybe holographic, maybe not? Not sure yet).

In the meantime, RedBubble has recently changed their terms to be less friendly for artists, so we may need to see about setting up an art store elsewhere.

Daz PA: With everything going on, it took me a while to finish the limestone cave set… especially since I decided to add glow worms. Unfortunately, the fancier promos did take a while to render (longest one ran for over 40 hours because I decided I wanted an image that used god rays and atmosphere along with the pretty glow worms).

But, since I figured I wouldn’t have much time to do major work on any Daz projects while moving, simply letting an image render worked out all right.

Good news is that has now released. šŸ˜„

SBibb Limestone Cave Vignette

SBibb Limestone Cave Vignette Promo Art

Meanwhile, the joint PA project ended up being cancelled, so I may repurpose my poses from that for something else, and soon I’ll be checking to see which of my other sets were almost complete and thus ready for me to give attention to finalizing.

Happy writing and reading (Or 3D rendering if you’re into Daz)! šŸ™‚

Infinitas Publishing – Status Report

This status report will be for the last two months (February and March) since I got a bit caught up in other things and didn’t get the March version posted.

But, seeing as it’s April… time for another Infinitas Publishing status report! šŸ˜

I’ve highlighted the projects that had changes in blue.

* * *

Distant Horizon: (Book 1 of the Distant Horizon series): I revisited this to start preparing a paperback version of this in Atticus, which can be used on Draft2Digital in order to release a paperback version wide across multiple retailers, rather than only on Amazon. I intend to revisit the blurb before finalizing this.

Starless Night: (Book 3 of the Distant Horizon series). I got a basic round of formatting done for the print edition, and I’ve started the polishing process. I still need to update the blurb, and create the wrap-around cover once I have the final page count.

(On hold).

DeceivedĀ (Distant Horizon spin-off series):Ā Completed posting Deceived on Wattpad. It can now be read in its entirety.

SBibb - Betrayed CoverBetrayed (Deceived #2): Cover complete!

I’m working on one more round of revisions and edits to the manuscript, and I’ve started posting the WIP version on Wattpad! I plan to post a chapter a week until it’s complete, at which point I’ll see about finalizing it for publication (it will go out to beta-readers as soon as we’ve gone through the read-aloud stage for the entire manuscript). Before each chapter is posted, Isaac and I listen to it being read aloud via a text-to-speech app, so that we can make any final changes.

Depending on how releasing on Wattpad goes, we’ll see if we also want to release Deceived #3 this way or return to only releasing it in its final, polished form.

The next step is toĀ continue revisions on Deceived #3.

Future Goals: Add Isaac’s notes from Deceived #5 (formerly #4) into the manuscript, revise Deceived #5, and revise #6 (formerly #5) before handing it to Isaac for his feedback.

The Dark Forest of Aneth (“Ro’nor (“The Restless Sands of Neel”) & Zynia (“The Dragons of the Mist”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel): I’ve made considerable progress here, with more revisions to specific scenes I was having problems with. Turns out there was a tone shift I hadn’t noticed in Ro’nor’s character, and an earlier plot point that needed adjusted. Additionally, I’ve added in several new scenes, and made plot adjustments to the earlier story, and started writing the poem/song I plan to have running along concurrently with the main plot.

Goals: Finish rough draft now that I have the main story back on track. Complete the book cover render setup.

Game Design: On hold.

Future plans in game design involve: possibly preparing a print-and-play version of Battle Decks, polishing the elemental game card art and testing mechanics, and looking into options for feasibly producing Phalanx.

Isaac’s Untitled Sci-Fi Story: Isaac has been writing the rough draft to a quirky, episodic sci-fi fantasy story somewhat in the vein of Doctor Who and sweetweird stories. He’s currently at 32,000 words. Lots of sense-of-wonder universe-hopping, clever puns and references (he has an entire episode that’s referencing magic girl stories), and a cute romance between the polyamorous triad crew. We’re expecting that he will the the only author listed for this, whereas I’ll be acting as editor.

Marketing: I got business taxes mailed out a week early this time. Woot! I also did the usual Amazon drip ads and a couple of BookFunnel promos this last month, but didn’t do as much promotion for them as I usually prefer. That kind of fell by the wayside due to also trying to prepare for moving. The next couple months will likely be a little sporadic at times for that same reason, and I haven’t scheduled any BookFunnel promos for this month. Newsletters have also been a tad sporadic for the same reason.

I did, however, teach a free, two-hour workshop at the Copper Country Community Arts Center at the beginning of April, a presentation on “Crafting Your Fictional World.” I had a lot of fun with this one, especially since I could have dived in a lot deeper on the subject if I’d had more time, so I’m thinking I’ll try offering this class again in the future, and maybe branch out for how to take those details and embed them into your story without info dumping.

Unofficial Minecraft FanFic: So… this one is largely me having fun (Though Microsoft and Mojang do have a really generous license when it comes to commercializing fanfic, so who knows?) Including notes, the rough draft is currently 15,000 words long. Long story short, I’m enjoying the concept of writing the adventures of a character who has been dropped into a Minecraft world, has no idea why they’re there, and is currently trying to figure out the rules of the world. To do that, I started up a new game in survival mode and I’m attempting to not god-mode it by making sure the character only “figures things out” as they discover them in-game. My favorite moments so far probably involve how many close run-ins they’ve had with Endermen that they just don’t realize. That, and realizing the bed is their respawn point. It’s… just a lot of fun and a nice way to unwind at the end of the day.

SBibb’s Photographic Illustration: I’ve completed the book cover and formatting for the small press book I’ve been working on. The Forget-Me-Knot by Richard F. McGonegal is now available!Ā

I’ve also been working on creating an updated wrap-around cover for a book that has changed hands from its independent publisher back to its author.

Future Goals: Figure out a schedule for uploading general art projects. Update the SBibbPhoto website to incorporate Daz work, and fix the SEO information.

SIFlintArt: No new updates. (Find our Redbubble shop here).

Daz PA: Two new releases! In the meantime, I’m close to submittingĀ a limestone cave themed environment set. Modelling and texturing that set took most of my previous month, though it sped up considerably after I picked up RizomUV Virtual Spaces for UV mapping.

Long story short, what was taking me hours (or days) to UV map could suddenly be mapped in a matter of fifteen to thirty minutes. (Talk about a very, very happy Stephanie).

Meanwhile, the joint PA project is still on pause, though it looks like it may resume soon, the winged-themed pose set is still on hold due to clipping issues, and my morph/outfit set, the pose set Isaac helped my work on, and the Daz Crow pose set is on pause. I’ve also started a Daz Horse 3 morph set, but we’ll see how that goes.

SBibb Regal Elf Poses for Genesis 9, 8, and 8.1 Females

SBibb Regal Elf Poses

This was a quick, fantasy-themed pose set I had fun making, partially inspired by watching the original Sailor Moon anime.

Ā

SBibb Pride Nails for Genesis 9

SBibb Pride Nails for Genesis 9

Again inspired by watching the Sailor Moon anime for its transformation sequence involving shiny nails, but also by one of the characters on The Owl House, I wanted to put together a set of Pride-themed nail colors. While I might not like wearing nail polish myself (have you ever seen a cat with a string around its paw? I have the same reaction.) it can look pretty cool.

Thoughts on Writing – Protagonists and the Enneagram

I recently finished reading Claire Taylor’s Reclaim Your Author Career book, which is a fascinating take that focuses on your personality (specifically your core motivations and fears, as determined by the Enneagram), and how to apply what you learn about yourself both to your author career, and to your characters and story development.

While the past couple months have been dedicated to the first round of revisions on the rough draft of Changing Tides, I’ve also been trying to diagnose why I’ve been stuck on certain stories and haven’t been able to make much progress. (Huntress #3, the Huntress prequel, and Legends of Cirena #9 all come to mind).

One of my concerns was that character motivations were off.

So…

I started doing some of the exercises in the book. What I have below is the edited version of my homework, but I thought that it might be helpful for anyone else trying to look into their character’s motivations.

My goal here was to determine each character’s Enneagram type, however, these are based primarily on the Reclaim Your Author Career book, specifically looking at writing motivationsā€¦ so it might be a little off.

Also important to noteā€¦ every test Iā€™ve taken puts me high in Type 5 Investigator (which I think fits me pretty well), though the secondary ones tend to vary. One test put me more as a Type 1 Reformer or Type 7 Enthusiast, with Type 8 Challenger and Type 4 Individualist extra low, while others put Individualist higher with Challenger and Enthusiast as competing for secondary placement. Seems like the wings for Investigator, either 4 or 6, are almost the same (though 6 did win out in the one that said my second highest scores were Reformer and Enthusiast).

Based on what I’ve read of the Enneagram, I’d say I’m a Type 5 Investigator with a Type 4 Individualist wing.

Reclaim Your Author Career suggests starting by sticking to characters who are in your Enneagram type, or at least in your triad, but I think my particular enneagram Investigator, combined with my top CliftonStrengths (Input, Learner, Ideation, Context, and Intellection) leads me to want to explore other character types and points of view because itā€™s a challenge! And fun. And helps me explore the world and understand other people better.

Soā€¦ Iā€™m going to choose to ignore that particular piece of advice, especially since I’m looking to figure out Enneagram types for characters who are already established.

I think that getting a sense of character motivation based on the Enneagram could help me diagnose when things arenā€™t going as planned in my stories, or if Iā€™m stuck.

Warning… these might be a little rambly since this is basically my thought process as I tried to figure out their different Enneagram types.

For this particular exercise (What enneagram type will your protagonist be?) I focus on characters who are either in current Work In Progress stories, or in stories that Iā€™ve gotten stuck with.

Jenna (Distant Horizon Series: Changing Tides): Very focused on knowledge. Being efficient. Feels betrayed when the ideals she was promised in society turn out not to be what the society is focused on. In the current story (Changing Tides), she fights to protect her family and friends, and to see the society she was promised come to life.

I think sheā€™s probably an Investigator, like me, especially since I created her as part of a role-play game (where I usually play a scholar). Her initial goals were to uncover the truth at the heart of a secret, and she can be easily motivated into believing that knowledge will help her solve problems (the brain seed uses this to try to manipulate her into giving it more power during Starless Night). In her growth stage, she does start leaning into Challenger territory, challenging norms and making her own rules (especially when she gets a power boost).

Unlike me though, (5w4, or 5 Investigator with Wing 4 Individualist), I think she actually might be 5w6, or Wing 6 Loyalist, because she does desire that safe world and is more confrontational of the scary things (beast transformation plantsā€¦ etc).

So for her, I’ll start by thinking Jennaā€™s probably an Investigator with a Wing 4 in Loyalist.

(Investigators desire being competent and capable, and fear being incompetent or incapable.)

Galina (Deceived Series: Betrayed): Galina is determined to get back to her sister and protect her, since she’s afraid her sister might have powers and get sent away to a terrible transformation facility. Galina doesnā€™t want anything happening to her. While she doesnā€™t like the secrets the Community holds, unlike Jenna, sheā€™s more annoyed than betrayed, and sheā€™s definitely not a straight-A student. Sheā€™s bored at desk jobs and simply doesnā€™t have the motivation to put in the effort. However, when it comes to protecting people, or if a life needs saving, sheā€™ll step up to the task. She wants to protect people (especially friends and family, but also anyone innocent). Sheā€™s certainly not above blackmailing someone to get the results she wants, but she tries to be conscientious of how she uses other peopleā€™s skills and powers–at least when theyā€™re friends.

Based on that, Iā€™d say sheā€™s either a Type 2 Helper, wanting to help people who are struggling, build community, and inspire others, or Type 8 Challenger, because she makes her own rules (with the help of others who have power), and challenges the norm (though sheā€™s more interested in starting by creating a safe haven for those in troubleā€¦ which could be seen as empowering others to fight back). Given that sheā€™s actually a terrible fighterā€¦ makes sense sheā€™d want to delegate.

Challengers desire to be strong and independent, and fear being controlled or harmed. Helpers desire being loved and needed, and fear being unloved or unwanted. Considering the motivations of the two, I think she leans more toward Challenger, which works out well for me since Challenger is the growth stage of Investigator, and also since my third highest score is sometimes Challenger, sometimes Enthusiast. Plus, since Challengerā€™s growth path is Helper, that seems to make sense for Galina.

Roā€™nor (Legends of Cirena series: The Dark Forest of Aneth): Roā€™nor is kind of reclusive and likes to do his own thing, and heā€™s not especially sure of himself or his abilitiesā€¦ especially since heā€™s been surrounded by others with really strong magical powers and a lore that tells of when his family could shift into dragon form. That said, he still wants to put his abilities to use (preferably in less… exciting…ways) that can be helpful to others, and he will reluctantly answer a call for helpā€“especially if he feels obligated to the other person for any reason. Seems part of him would also like to do something awesome that achieves the status of legends like his ancestorsā€¦ but part of him might also like to stay quietly out of the way and out of danger.

With that in mind, the types I can see working well with him might be Type 3 Achiever, desiring to be worthy and valuable, and fearing being worthless or valueless, or Type 5 Investigator, desiring to be competent/capable and fearing being incompetent or incapable.

At first I thought he might be a Type 2 Helper (wanting to be loved/needed, fear of being unloved or unwanted), but the more I think about it, the more I donā€™t think this is really his core motivation.

Honestly, itā€™s kind of interesting actually trying to examine these for different characters, because I didnā€™t even think about him being an Achiever or Investigator until I actually started trying to look closely at him and re-read through the different Types and their motivations.

Given that I keep feeling something is off about the story Iā€™m trying to write with him right nowā€¦ I’m kind of wondering if I was right about thinking something was wrong with character motivation here.

When looking further at the motivations (writing-focused), Type 3 Achiever works well for Ro’nor wanting to be recognized for his skills, but I question that he actually wants to be an inspiration for others or add value to the world, or if itā€™s just that those things were so valued within Darden society that he simply thinks he wants those things. (Am I sensing a possible character arc here? Note to selfā€¦ this might actually be a really useful way of re-evaluating that problem in the story). So I looked at Type 5 Investigator for Writing Motivations, which didnā€™t seem quite right for him. Heā€™s not looking to build his own world or explore lifeā€™s mysteries or create puzzles and solve themā€¦

Or is he?

He did leave the Darden Isles because he wanted to see the outside world beyond his own. The types of jobs he actively wants (when not getting wrangled into helping people) allow him to look into weather patterns and make suggestions for farmers to make the most efficient use of their crops. Solving puzzles.

Huh.

I think he might be an Investigator, though from a different angle than I would have first considered.

Well thenā€¦ I guess Iā€™m going to be re-evaluating the story with that lens in mind, and with the idea that his character arc might involve him needing to shed what he thinks he wants based on societyā€™s expectations to what he actually wants.

This is still a little iffy, but I think it’s a step closer in the right direction.

Zynia (Legends of Cirena series: The Dark Forest of Aneth): Zynia is devoted to honoring her god, Harethn, the god of travel. (He is known for being a helper to strangers on the road, safe travel, and also a proponent of freedom, one who has often been invoked among the Network of those who try to get slaves to safety). Zynia is also a listener, and will question her own teachings when evidence is produced counter to what she believes, though she is skeptical until she sees the evidence in full. She tries to be helpful, and to help those in need.

I felt like my memory of her original story arc was vague, so I reviewed that before deciding for sure on her Enneagram type.

Types that might apply to her: Type 3 Achiever, for wanting to be worthy or valuable and fearing not being those things (especially to her god), possibly Type 6 Loyalist, for wanting to be supported and secure (though more focused on fearing not being supported), possibly Type 9 Peacemaker, for desiring to be whole/unified and fearing being separate or cut off.

Honestly, though, none of these immediately stand out to me as ā€œOh yeah, thatā€™s Zynia.ā€ With that in mind I looked at the Writing Motivations section in Reclaim Your Author Career.

There, Type 1 Reformer has promise for wanting to show people the right way to live and create a better world, Type 2 Helper, for helping people who are struggling and maybe for being inspiring and uplifting, possibly Type 3 Achiever for wanting her skills recognized (by her god specifically), wanting to add value to the world, and wanting to be an inspiration to others, or possibly Type 9 Peacemaker, for sharing her hopeful vision, or creating harmony from conflictā€¦

I went back and skimmed the story with Zynia as a protagonist (The Dragons of the Mist), and came up with these notes about her character:

Values fairness, the gods offering help rather than being arrogant. Being generous. Considers the high godā€¦obliviousā€¦but not power hungry. Sheā€™s concerned about being a burden to others (especially Harethn), and doesnā€™t want to ask for a favor if sheā€™s not sure she needs it. She very much enjoys when her devotion to her god is recognized by him. Wants to be looked on fondly/loved by Harethn. Sheā€™s a little skeptical, worried about trickster immortals. Genuinely prays to Harethn for guidance in uncertain times. She does have a curiosity about the world around her, especially mysteries/immortal things, but she tries to be thoughtful about approaching them. Values freedom/sovereignty, and the ability for mortals to make their own choices.

After reviewing those, I re-reviewed the various Enneagram core motivations.

Type 2 Helper makes sense when looking at her desire to be loved and needed by Harethn, and same with Type 3 Achiever in terms of wanting to be worthy/valuable to Harethn. In terms of writing motivations, Type 2 of helping people who are struggling could make sense, or Type 3 adding value to the world and being recognized for her skills (though Iā€™d almost think she really wants to be recognized for her self worth and devotion to Harethn, not so much for the skills themselves.)

With that in mind, Iā€™ve narrowed her type to being either Type 2 or 3.

At which point I went and did a little more in-depth looking at the definitions for Type 2 and 3.

I used The Enneagram Institute pages for the Helper and the Achieverā€¦and it immediately became clear which type she would likely be.

The Helper leans more toward being ā€œthe caring: interpersonal type: generous, demonstrative, people-pleasing, and possessiveā€ whereas the Achiever isĀ  ā€œthe success-oriented, pragmatic type: adaptable, excelling, driven, and image-conscious.ā€ Here, it feels clear she is a Helper. Especially when Helpers have a tendency to have trouble acknowledging their own needs.

Now that I know sheā€™s a Helper, I can look more into that Enneagram type to determine what goals and fears she might have going forward.

One thing this exercise helped make clear to me was that I really didnā€™t have a clear picture of Zyniaā€™s wants and fears, especially as related to the current story sheā€™s part of, and that might be leading to some of my uncertainties in regards to how to push the story forward, and how it should resolve in a way that would be satisfying.

I also want to do this for characters in the Huntress universe, but I need to go back over what I already have written to remind myself of their values and motivations.

Anyway, I hope seeing my thought process has been helpful for you.

Happy writing! šŸ˜Š

Infinitas Publishing – Status Report

Now that we’re in February, time for another Infinitas Publishing status report! šŸ˜ƒ

I’ve highlighted the projects that had changes in blue.

* * *

Starless Night: (Book 3 of the Distant Horizon series). Paperback formatting on hold while working on Changing Tides draft.

Changing Tides: (Book 4 of the Distant Horizon series). I’ve finished the first round of revisions on the rough draft part two, for roughly 35,000 words of revisions.

Next step is to merge the two revised drafts and start writing the missing scenes.

The Glitch Saga (Distant Horizon spin-off series): Goal is to create a new cover and print edition for the complete collection edition. (On hold).

Deceived #2(Distant Horizon spin-off series): So far there are six chapters of Deceived on Wattpad.

The next step for Deceived #2 is to hand it to Isaac for a final round of developmental edits, then create a book cover for Deceived #2Ā and continue revisions on Deceived #3.

Future Goals: Add Isaac’s notes from Deceived #5 (formerly #4) into the manuscript, revise Deceived #5, and revise #6 (formerly #5) before handing it to Isaac for his feedback.

The Legends of Cirena – Collaborative Adventure Facebook Group: On hiatus.

The Dark Forest of Aneth (“Ro’nor (“The Restless Sands of Neel”) & Zynia (“The Dragons of the Mist”) cross-over / A Legends of Cirena short novel): I’ve started re-reading the chapters with light revisions and making notes about what might need adjusted in order to get the story back on track for finishing the draft.

Goals: Rough draft needs completed, and there are a couple scenes I’d like to add earlier in the story. I already have a book cover concept, which needs to be completed.

Emberverse (Working Title):Ā  Revisions on hold. Needs title. Needs outline for “Season 2.”

Isaac’s Short Stories: – School’s back in session, so these projects are on hold while he writes his dissertation.

Marketing: I had both a Best Book Monkey newsletter promo and a Geektastic newsletter promo to help spread awareness of Distant Horizon and Magic’s Stealing being free during the month. They’re now back to full price, but I had them free from December to the end of January. I also had the usual Amazon drip ads and BookFunnel promos.

I still need to schedule this month’s weekly promo highlight, but I have them chosen, and last month they went out as planned.

Additionally, I’ve made progress on finalizing last year’s business ledger. I’ve also been doing a bit of extra non-fiction reading related to both writing craft and marketing.

Next up: Continue adding sample chapters to the BookFunnel pages and the main Infinitas Publishing website, and update my author bio across the different websites.

Other future marketing goals: Update the business ledger. Add a progress tracker somewhere for the different books. Test Draft2Digital for wide print distribution, revise Amazon ads, and overhaul book categories, keywords, and blurbs. Create a “Backburner Project Page” for projects that aren’t going to be focused on for a while.

LitRPG / GameLit Story:Ā On hold. (Needs revisions and restructuring).

Future Goals: Figure out a schedule for uploading general art projects. Update the SBibbPhoto website to incorporate Daz work, and fix the SEO information.

SIFlintArt: No new updates. (Find our Redbubble shop here).

Daz PA: Finally got a couple products submitted! šŸ˜€

The slush and snow shaders project is complete and has now been released. I also have a fantasy-themed pose set expected to release soon. Additionally, I’ve been working on a winged-themed pose set, but ran into some clipping issues that I noticed while making more promos, so I temporarily put that on hold for a completely different makeup set. That one is proceeding well, so I hope to finish and submit it soon.

Meanwhile, I’m waiting to hear back on the joint PA project, and I’ve made no new progress on my morph/outfit set. I also plan to work on finishing the pose set Isaac helped my work on (currently in polishing stages), as well as a pose set I’ve started for the Daz Crow.

SBibb Slush and Snow Shaders for Iray and Merchant Resource

SBibb Slush and Snow Shaders for Iray

This set was especially fun to make since I took all the photos using my macro lens… finally got to make use of my love of texture photography!
