Creative Photography – Practice HDR

My Creative Photography class is taking a shot at HDR (High Dynamic Resolution) images using Dynamic Photo HDR. Some of the pictures were shot on a trip to Texas (with this class in mind for those exposures) and some were shot during an in-class shooting day. Most were shot with a “correct” exposure plus two stops up and two stops down.

Editorial Assignment 3 – Jennies Blackout Game

These are pictures I took of the Jennies Blackout Basketball Game for my editorial class. This was University of Central Missouri versus Truman state in the MIAA game. This was the last home game of the season. As per requirement of the class, I called in for a press pass, but when I got there one hadn’t been made for me. Fortuanetly, one of the staff there was able to get permission for me to get on the floor to take pictures.

I discovered that I most enjoy getting pictures of action and expressions… and also half-time events.

Theatre Headshots – Becca

These are theatre headshots I took for a student of theatre. These were taken in the school’s studio with profoto lights and a beauty dish, as well as a softbox for a floor light, and a gridspot for the hairlight. It was a roughly one and a half hour photo session, after which I let her see proofs via the webpage-maker in Adobe Lightroom. She chose the ones she wanted me to edit, and I retouched those as well as making them black and white and in the 8.5×11, 8×10, and orginal size formats.

This is also the photoshoot that my Canon Rebel XS decided to show me Error 99. Luckily I was able to run downstairs to checkout a Canon 30D from the photo department. Most shots were with the Rebel, but a few of them were with the 30D.

Creative Photography Assignment 3 – Animal People

For our third assignment in Creative Photography, I decided to keep with digital editing, only this time go with heavy manipulation. Anthropomorphic animals have always seemed neat to me, so I decided to try crossing pictures of people with pictures of animals (Most of the animal pictures were pictures I took at various zoos last year, with the exception of the seagull wings and squirrel). I also played a lot with the Highpass and Shadow/Highlights filter, along with texture and blending mode filters.

Creative Photography – Assignment 2 – Panoramas

In the Creative Photography class we had a class period to shoot panoramas – at which point I decided to use panoramas for my next assignment- with a twist: They would be digitally manipulated. I combined multiple photos in some cases, did a bunch of retouching with others, and played with filters and highpass and digital painting in yet others. It was a fun assignment, and these are the results:

Editorial Assigment – Mules Basketball Practice

During editorial class today we reviewed Lightroom in class, so we worked on basic retouching and cropping. These are some of the pictures from the February 2nd Mules’s Basketball Practice at UCM.

Editorial – Mules Practice 2-2-2010

We shot basketball practice at the Multipurpose building the other day during class, and these are some of the pictures I came up with. There were four different lenses I shot with, no flash. I think I prefer subjects that move relatively little unless I’m playing with slow shutter speed. No post-processing editing was done, this is what the camera came up with.

Editorial Assignment One – Food

For the first assignment in UCM’s editorial class I chose to do food photography, referencing a Cooking Light magazine for lighting on the Famous Amos cookies (a picture of peanut brittle with lighting on front as well as behind), and using my two alien bee lights. I used a movie light (lowel) for the Pillsbury cookies… which tasted very good, by the way.

Creative Photography Assignment 1 – Self-Portrait

Our first assignment in Creative Photography was self-portrait work. I decided I would make digital manipulation my key focus. So I set up studio in the currently empty other half of my dorm room using two Alien B400 lights and a grid spot, along with a piece of red fabric safety-pinned to the curtains, and took various pictures. Most of them were shot with a continuous shot ten-second timer. Several of the base photos turned out blurry, but after a couple shots they finally came out right. I also took several photos of my laptop. Then, in order to get the “fish-in-the-net” photos, I asked my boyfriend for help holding me- and giving me a chance to take up random poses. Granted, the expressions on my face wasn’t entirely an act, since being held precariously over a desk isn’t exactly my favorite thing to do. In the end some of those poses helped for the “falling-into-the-laptop” pictures, as well as the one where I am coming out of the laptop’s portable hardrive. It was a fun shoot, and I think the results turned out interesting.
