An early render of Meshon

Today I thought I’d do a behind-the-scenes snippet for one of the Cirenan-Cantingen goddesses: Meshon.

Meshon is one of the older goddesses, and she has a strong presence in both Cirenan and Cantingen pantheons.

Though not considered a primary goddess in the Cantingen pantheon (who only recognize a small handful of deities in addition to Madia), Meshon is revered as Madia’s trusted messenger.

Meshon is often referred to as the Oracle, capable of seeing visions of the future and walking between realms–though her ability to cross realms means it’s not always clear which world her visions refer to, and that issue has landed many of her followers into trouble for trying to interpret her dreams.

Shevanlagiy/Ralendacin has held a grudge with the goddess for this very reason, and that grudge is clear in Magebane.

Meshon currently has a role in both The Wishing Blade series and Stone and String, and even plays small roles in some of the Legends of Cirena short stories, such as The Scars of Her Past… though she plays a much larger role in the upcoming Legends of Cirena novel, The Dark Forest of Aneth. (Yes, novel. It was supposed to be a novella but it has well surpassed that word count at this point).

Below is one of the test images I created for Meshon using Daz 3D Studio. Her design is still in progress, but this is fairly close to how I see her. 🙂

The goddess Meshon spreads her arms to do magic. She has dark skin, wears a sheer head scarf, and has beads in her braided hair.

Meshon’s prophecies will eventually have a strong role in the next Stone and String story, and it’s her prophecy that references the coming of Ralendacin, the “Destroyer of Worlds” (Shevanlagiy in The Wishing Blade series).

An Early Plant Beast Render

Many, many Distant Horizon Universe newsletters ago, back in early 2019, I had a poll for which Distant Horizon beast subscribers would like to see me try to render in Daz.

Keyword being “try” to render, because I was still learning the program and uh… even my drawn attempts to create beasties hadn’t been that great.

At the time, I had a lot fewer assets to work with, and a lot less practice with morphing the figure’s features to get the desired look.

Anyway, with a lot of Photoshop post-processing…

This was my take on a plant beast “candid shot” caught in the wild by a rebel photographer.

The image was inspired by this section from Distant Horizon, where Jenna sees a picture of a plant beast for the first time:

The image had been taken in a jungle, with thick ferns and tall trees spiraling around the frame. It focused on a vaguely humanoid creature. Thick, woody vines wrapped around its hands, twined across its shoulders, and curled around its collarbone. The vines rested loose against its bare chest. The creature—male—was naked, with pale, green-tinted skin and a thicker brow. Like the beast we’d seen in the security feed, this one had cat-like eyes and pointed ears.

Anyway, there you have it!

First attempt to create a Distant Horizon beast in Daz.

Should I give it another go sometime, try a then and now?

I’m now a Daz PA! :-D

I’m now a Daz PA! 😀

Quick explanation: Daz Studio is a 3D rendering program that allows you to set up 3D images and animation. I use it mostly for art, and it’s becoming more frequently used on book covers.

As a PA (published artist), I do freelance work for Daz 3D… right now I’m focusing on creating premade pose sets and character morphs.

My first set just released last Saturday:

SBibb Wonder and Curiosity

Poses and Expressions for Genesis 8

SBibb Wonder and Curiosity Poses and Expressions

I’ve been working toward becoming a PA (published artist) since around August, and I first started submitting a set to them in October. They showed interest, but what I had wasn’t quite ready for them.

So I ended up creating this set… poses and expressions to evoke wonder, curiosity, and joy.

A couple months ago, I found out they were interested in having me be a PA, and we began the process of formalizing it.

Last week, I finally saw that come to fruition. 😀

(I was also super thrilled because one of my images for the set got used on the site banner for that day’s sale. *SQUEE!*)

Here’s a few more images from that set…

Anyway, expect to see more announcements of new Daz products from me in the future. 😀

Side note… The spelling of “curiosity” trips me up almost every time. I had to double and triple check that I was spelling it right for this.
