Fantasy Princess Photoshoot – Katie

This was a studio shoot with Katie. πŸ™‚ The idea was to have fantasy princess stock images for my portfolio use, and these were the resulting pictures. The duplicate image is a quick book cover mock-up I did, so you can see how it might be used for a wrap-around book cover. πŸ™‚

Portrait Sci-Fi Photoshoot – Stacia

A SciFi based photoshoot. My main goal was to get pictures that resembled the main character in my young adult novel I’m writing, Distant Horizon. Stacia modeled for me, and luckily we were able to get the vine armband to work. There’s also a sneak peak at one of the Honors College project book covers I’m working on on Flickr. πŸ™‚

Book Cover Creation – Beyond the Eyes

One of my interests with photography is to create book covers, so my initial thought is to cater to those who are self-publishing or e-publishing. I commonly frequent the writer’s forum Absolute Write (since I’m writing young adult novels myself), and I offered to do a free book cover for someone as practice, and to get a better idea of the process. Today I completed the book cover for Rebekkah, for her upcoming book, Beyond the Eyes. I still need to format it for various uses through e-publishing and promotions, but this is the resulting image. πŸ™‚

Portrait Fantasy Photoshoot – Amanda

As part of my portfolio class and honors project, I’ve begun building up my stock photography to use in illustrations. Here we have Amanda modeling for me on one of the amazingly nice days in January. We headed over to Culp Park to do the photoshoot, after picking up the outfit. (She got the dress, I picked up accessories). I used a 420 EX flash and homemade softbox, and afterwords edited the pictures for a more fantasy type appearance. πŸ™‚

SBibb’s Blog Gets A New Design

Notice something different? Yep, I’ve updated the blog with a new theme that fits my upcoming website design. Look forward to a matching website, as well as (hopefully) consistent updates to DeviantArt andΒ Cafepress. Also, a facebook page will be in the works for special promotions and sneak peaks at upcoming illustrations and deals.

Coming soon! πŸ˜€

Business Ventures – Cafepress

This semester I’m enrolled in both Business Management for Photography and Digital Portfolio, which is essentially a web design class. The important part is that I’m in the process of forming a business plan (both for illustration and for portrait), and I’m developing a website that will eventually be the hub of this process.

However, I’m also looking into other marketing strategies. I plan to use this wordpress blog to reveal behind the scenes info, I intend to make a business page on facebook to do both promotions and sneak peaks of upcoming illustrations, and I intend to continue using Flickr to showcase a large variety of photography, since my main website will act as a portfolio.

One thing in this process I’ve started is to create a Cafepress shop to sell my personal illustrations as posters, t-shirts, journals, tote bags, and other miscellaneous items. Problem is, I’ve got to figure out how to market it. I’ve considered using Google’s Adwords, but I’m not quite sure that’s the method I want to use. For now, have a look:

The color themes temporarily match the upcoming website theme, and hopefully I’ve got it nicely categorized for customers to search through. In the meantime, I’m trying out Google’s Analytics tool to see if I can see any trends in traffic.
